Brown Daniel (Hebrew)
Published by Modan (Hebrew, full English text available)
The true story of Daniel’s father; his childhood in a small Jewish village in Ethiopia and his long and difficult journey to Israel. This is a book I originally wrote for my son Daniel when he was 5, and is widely used in pre-school programs in Israel to foster cross-cultural understanding and talk about the issue of color. This was the first children’s book in Hebrew to feature a brown-skinned child, and is currently being adapted into a children’s park in Hulon.
Educational issues raised by the book: The issue of color, being different but equal, being able to explain oneself and use words rather than fists.
